Recently, the Department of Science and Technology of Zhejiang Province made public the list of provincial-level key laboratories of 2024. The "Zhejiang Key Laboratory for Offshore Wind Power Technology", led by WINDEY and established jointly by Zhejiang University and Zhejiang University of Technology, has been officially accredited. As Zhejiang Province’s major innovation platform centering on the planning of new energy field, this laboratory will be committed to shattering the key technical bottlenecks in the realm of deep and far-sea wind power.
The “Zhejiang Key Laboratory” is a vital component of the sci-tech innovation system in Zhejiang Province. It is a high-level sci-tech innovation platform built by Zhejiang Province to support the national strategy and create the source of sci-tech innovation and industrial development in Zhejiang. The process for accreditation of “Zhejiang Key Laboratory” is rigorous, and it requires the review and approval of the Department of Science and Technology of Zhejiang Province, ensuring that the laboratories have high-level scientific research & innovation capabilities in their respective domains.
Aiming at the national “Dual Carbon" strategic goal and focusing on the technological changes arising from the wind power generation’s “Large-scale, Ocean-based, and Intelligent" development, the “Zhejiang Key Laboratory for Offshore Wind Power Technology” has set up three key research directions, namely the basic theories and key technologies of ultra-large wind turbines, the characteristic mechanism and key technologies of offshore wind power, and the key technologies for intelligent control of ultra-large-scale deep and far-sea wind turbines. It will shatter the technical bottlenecks in China's high-end offshore wind power equipment, build a world-class scientific research highland with important international influence in the field of offshore wind power equipment, and play a leading and exemplary role in the global development of new energy. The laboratory has integrated domestic leading wind power enterprises and tiptop universities. On the one hand, it gives play to the advantages of the industry-university-research integration featuring interdisciplinary cooperation, with a view to achieving breakthroughs in the basic theories and frontier technologies of offshore wind power and reaching the international advanced level. On the other hand, it takes advantage of the leading enterprises in the wind power industry chain to strengthen the links such as wind power equipment, key components, deep-water jackets, floating foundations, mooring systems, etc., in order to enhance the international competitiveness of China's entire offshore wind power industry chain.
Next, WINDEY will keep carrying out groundbreaking research and achievement commercialization while focusing on the main research directions and key tasks of the laboratory, enabling the research strength of the “Zhejiang Key Laboratory for Offshore Wind Power Technology” to reach the international advanced level and rank among the world-class research institutions.
